Who We Are
The Junior Journalist Program revitalizes local news through the eyes of the next generation. We provide high school students with professional platforms and mentorship from seasoned editors. Our students produce investigative stories published across major regional media, bridging youth perspectives with critical community issues for real-world impact.
Our Origin
Journalism in Crisis
The Junior Journalist Program was born from an urgent need. As traditional local newsrooms scale back, entire neighborhoods are losing a critical information base and sense of community identity. By empowering youth to pick up the mantle of journalism, we intent to revitalize the democratic heartbeat of our communities through the perspective of the next generation.
Our Values & Approach
At the Junior Journalist Program, we believe in learning by doing. Our approach empowers students to report stories that matter, guided by professional standards and core journalistic principles.
Core Value
Journalism starts with the truth. We teach students the importance of accuracy, ethical sourcing, and staying unbiased in their pursuit of community stories.
Core Value
Community First
By highlighting local issues, we bridge information gaps and foster connection within the neighborhoods we serve.
Core Value
Learning by Doing
Students aren't just in classrooms; they interview local leaders and publish real reports impacting their community.
